ANTIQUE XXL DOUBLE SIDED GENTS OF LEICESTER STATION CLOCK

#1685

Antique XXL double sided Gents Of Leicester station clock.

English 1930’s.

An incredibly rare, & one of a kind double sided station clock of monumental proportions.

This beauty is authenticated fully as a Great Western Railway station clock, which from new, this clock hung pride of place in Bristol Temple Meads train station, on platform 12, Reading side.

It recently featured on the well-known TV program, Salvage Hunters, The Restorers, whereby it was given a full restoration overhaul by the very talented Bo Hare of Who Hares Wins.

Standing a massive 41″ in diameter, this is one of the finest station clocks we have ever owned. The striking clock dial depicts two eras of time; the Roman numerals being the original clock dial from the 1930s and the 24-hour numbers in the late 60’s early 70’s. In the latter period, the railways introduced the 24hour time format; subsequently, Bristol station had the dial completely overpainted. This change ensured it complied with the station announcements and allowed ease of reading by the passengers. During the meticulous restoration, and underneath the painted dial, Bo Hare discovered the original roman numeral dial. Therefore it seemed only right to use both fantastic features to make this clock the only one of its kind in the world!

Original and fully working condition, still retaining both Gents of Leicester movements.
